George L Anderson
Biography:

George L. Anderson, Jr. known as ‘G’ to some, currently resides in Columbus, Ohio, was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., and moved to Bowling Green, Ohio at an early age when his Undertaker father purchased a funeral home there. George swears the reason he began playing guitar was due to the fact that he resided in that Funeral Home. The family residence was on the second floor. He was regularly told to be quiet by his parents because there were people in the Funeral Parlors downstairs calling on their deceased loved ones. George heard the Hush and Shish commands more times than he would ever be able to count. This transcended into his relationships at school, etc., as he tended to be a bit quiet and not assertive when confronted by school bullies who tended to pick on him because of his shy demeanor. His father would tell him to be quiet at the funeral home, but school bullies told him to shut up if he said anything. Things changed when he got his first electric guitar. His attitude became: ‘Try to shut me up now’. Obviously he couldn’t play upstairs at the funeral home while a funeral or calling hours were taking place, but the guitar now gave him a means to express himself which he was previously unable to do. After less than 5 years of playing George had formed the Northwestern Ohio Band, the Blue Crystals. This band performed more than 600 performances from 1963 – 1968. Please check out the Blue Crystal page for more detail and the history of that group and the years preceding the Blue Crystals. In addition to the 600+ gigs, the band produced two 45 rpm records, and songs on two compilation albums. Two of the songs that were recorded “Tension” and “We’ll be Thru Forever” were written by George. While George has played in many part time groups in the Columbus, Ohio area since the years with the Blue Crystals, and over the years has taught private lessons in two Columbus studios, the majority of his time these days is spent recording in his home studio, and occasionally playing a solo act by using a Midi keyboard workstation for his bass and drum tracks. These days you may see him playing at Indian Lake, a 4th of July Block Party in Clintonville, or an MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Assn) benefit in Zanesville. Nowadays his performances will have him not only playing guitar, but keyboard as well. His music today consists of Classic Rock, Blues, a sprinkling of Country and Jimmy Buffet, an occasional jazz standard, as well as some of his favorite surf music from the sixties plus some original music. He covers the music of Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, the Ventures, Roy Orbison, the Eagles, CCR, the Beatles, and Rolling Stones to name a few. He also tends to include an occasional contemporary tune. Overall, he describes the mix as eclectic. Also He is currently developing a CD of his favorite guitar instrumentals along with a few select vocals, including a new version of his song Tension. The CD will be offered on this site when completed.
